Mobile Toolbox for Use in Research Settings
With the development of the Mobile Toolbox, researchers can assess neurobehavioral function across a common metric. That is, this suite of tests can ‘crosswalk’ among tests supporting the pooling and sharing of large data sets. It provides a universal language to import research questions both with respect to the primary study aims and those arising from secondary data analyses.
Test Selection
Mobile Toolbox tests can be added onto an existing protocol to allow for a common assessment across studies, or a researcher can choose to use the Mobile Toolbox tests as standalone tests. Researchers can administer a pre-selected set of core tests or choose their own individual tests. Once tests are administered, data can be exported via REDCap using one of several export options, e.g., SAS, STATA, R, Excel.

Highlighted Use Case
The NIH Toolbox has been used in a number of national (and international) large scale studies, including the Human Connectome Project, ABCD Study®, Advancing Reliable Measurement in Alzheimer’s Disease and cognitive Aging (ARMADA), and the Environmental Health Outcomes Study (ECHO). The ease of administration and use makes these tests a great addition to large (or smaller) scale studies.

Cognition
The Mobile Toolbox Tests cover a variety of areas in cognition. The suite of tests will continue to grow to include select measures from the Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS ®), and tests from other measurement systems including the NIH Toolbox® Emotion Domain, the International Cognitive Ability Resource (ICAR), and the Cognitive Neuroscience Test Reliability and Clinical applications for Schizophrenia (CNTRACs).
